After paying that price, networks get the chance to earn millions in ad revenue, plus more for syndication, DVD sales, digital downloads, streaming rights, etc.

Next to ad revenue, streaming may prove to be the most profitable.

Amazon reportedly paid $700,000 per episode of CBS' (NYSE: CBS) hit drama, Under the Dome.

Google's YouTube is predicted to earn a phenomenal amount of ad revenue in 2013.

While analysts differ in their predictions, market research firm eMarketer believes that YouTube could make $5.6 billion this year.
