Sprint Confirms Interest In Former RadioShack Leases
Sprint Corp. (NYSE: S) confirmed Friday that it may acquire leases from the bankrupt RadioShack.
The telecommunications company is "looking at RadioShack very closely" for retail expansion plans that include opening up to 50 Sprint stores each month in 2015, Chief Executive Marcelo Claure told Reuters Friday.
Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ: AMZN) also in rumored talks to acquire leases on soon-to-be vacant RadioShack store fronts, according to Bloomberg.
RadioShack, which filed for bankruptcy protection Thursday, plans to close half its roughly 4,000 stores and sell the leases on the other half, Bloomberg report earlier this week.
Rumored talks between Sprint and RadioShack regarding soon-to-be vacant storefronts surfaced in mid January.
Sprint, which beat fourth-quarter expectations earlier Thursday, is interested in acquiring a reported 1,300 to 2,000 locations according to Bloomberg.
