Verizon Drops Weather Channel, Says There Are Many Other Ways To Check Weather

Share:

Amid contract disputes with the famous weather service, Verizon Communications Inc. (NYSE: VZ) has decided not to renew its agreement with The Weather Channel and its service Weather Scan.

TVByTheNumbers noted that while the Weather Channel is the most popular weather service on television, with a reach of upwards of 100 million households, Verizon is telling its customers to use other sources to access their weather information, such as online websites and smartphone applications.

Verizon is offering two solutions to its customers during this transitional period:

  • 1. Verizon is providing the FIOS TV WeatherBug "widget" application which features hyper-local weather. The app can also be launched on their subscribers' television screens by pressing the "widget" button on their remote.
  • 2.Verizon is launching the new AccuWeather network on March 10th 2015, which will be available on FIOS TV and their FIOS Mobile App.

Verizon Communications closed Monday at $48.23.
