Report: Marissa Mayer Isn't Going Anywhere

Share:

Yahoo! Inc. (NASDAQ: YHOO) CEO Marissa Mayer has no plans on relinquishing her title anytime soon, at least according to a report by the New York Post.

According to the report, Yahoo's "embattled" CEO has earned the nickname "Evita" after the musical about Argentina's Eva Peron. The report added that despite Mayer's unpopularity, she is "not planning on leaving her job anytime soon."

The New York Post added that any decision affecting Mayer's employment is determined by the Board of Directors. A unanimous vote would be required to force Mayer out of the company - a likely impossible task as Mayer holds one of the seats herself.

Meanwhile, Yahoo continues to face increasing pressure from large activist investors who appear to have one objective in mind: a sell of Yahoo's core assets. In fact, a source close to one of the large activist investors, Starboard Value, told the New York Post that "Anything short of ‘We're hiring bankers' and ‘We're going to explore selling the core business' is not enough."

The New York Post added that Yahoo's Chief Financial Officer, Ken Goldman, has held "informal" meetings with various private-equity firms to explore a sale of its core assets. However, a source was quoted as saying that Goldman "wants to stay a friend of private equity" and "it sounds like a CFO who wants another job and has already moved on."

Shares of Yahoo were trading lower by 0.85 percent at $29.26 late Monday morning.
