Nintendo Resurrects The NES...What's Next?

Nintendo Co., Ltd (ADR) (OTC: NTDOY) has already delivered a one-two punch following Pokémon GO's massive popularity with a nostalgic release of one of its original consoles: the NES. The back-to-back releases beg the question: Is the trend of capitalizing on nostalgia going to continue?

The new "mini" NES, set to release this fall, will come pre-packaged with 30 of some of the most beloved games in Nintendo's history and is likely to be a hit with its low $60 price point. It is likely that the release could spark a new trend in retro gaming, and it's far from improbable to expect other refreshes of Nintendo consoles and even other classic gaming systems.

Some of the rumored console re-releases include:

• Commodore 64: The 8-bit computer gaming console released in 1982 has already raised $100,000 — of a $150,000 goal — already from an Indiegogo campaign.
• Sega Dreamcast: Released in early 2000s, the highly anticipated console flopped and was Sega's last hardware, but a petition to bring back the console has already amassed 27,000 signatures.
• ColecoVision: Released in 1982, Coleco is set to bring back its classic console dubbed the Coleco Chameleon and will bring back arcade classics like "Donkey Kong" and "Frogger."
