Xiaomi Takes On Another Tech Behemoth With 2 New Launches
Chinese giant Xiaomi seems to be after all the big names in tech. Last year, the company took on GoPro Inc (NASDAQ: GPRO) with an action camera that retailed at half the price of its U.S. competitor’s price.
Now, the firm is at it again with two new launches: an affordable ($225), yet very powerful smartphone that features an OLED display and a dual camera; and a laptop that has been said competes with Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL)’s Macbook Air, but carries a price tag that starts at $540 for a 12.5-inch model, or $750 for a 13.3 inch model.
For the time being, the products will only be sold in China.
Under The Hood
Xiaomi’s Mi Notebook Air runs on Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ: MSFT)'s Windows, and features an Intel Corporation (NASDAQ: INTC) Core i5 Processor with 8GB DDR4 RAM, a 256GB PCIe SSD, an expandable SSD slot and an NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ: NVDA) GeForce 940MX graphics card.
In the tweet below, Xiaomi compares its new laptop with a MacBook air.
For its part, the new Redmi Pro smartphone comes with a 5.5-inch 1080p OLED display, fingerprint reading technology, a 4,050mAh battery, a 5-megapixel front-facing camera, and a dual camera that features a 13-megapixel Sony Corp (ADR) (NYSE: SNE) IMX258 main sensor and a 5-megapixel Samsung (OTC: SSNLF) assistive sensor.
