Papa John's Creates A Pizza Fit For Shaq
Pizza chain Papa John's Int'l, Inc. (NASDAQ: PZZA) has a new pie fit to satisfy the appetite of retired NBA superstar Shaquille O'Neal.
What Happened: As one would expect, a pizza fit for Shaq is extra large in size and topped with extra cheese and extra pepperoni, Papa John's said in a press release.
The pizza is appropriately named Shaq-a-Roni and was conceived by the four-time NBA champion, who is also a Papa John's board member.
The company will donate $1 for each pizza sold to the Papa John's Foundation for Building Community in support of COVID-19 relief, the fight against racial injustice, Boys & Girls Clubs of America, the United Negro College Fund and general community involvement.
"It was important to me for the Shaq-a-Roni to be bigger than just pizza," Shaq said in the press release.
Why It's Important: Papa John's is marketing its pizza with a social media angle. The restaurant will include an exclusive partnership with Snapchat parent company Snap Inc (NYSE: SNAP).
Snapchat users can point their phone's camera at the unique box, revealing a 3-D surprise. Additional AR features will be introduced across Papa John's social channels throughout July.
What's Next: The Shaq-a-Roni comes at a price of $12 per pie.
Papa John's shares were up 0.63% at $79.52 at the time of publication Monday.
