BMW Teams Up With Amazon For Autonomous Driving Tech In Upcoming EVs

German auto giant BMW (OTC:BMWYY) will leverage Amazon‘s (NASDAQ:AMZN) cloud computing technology for the development of semi-autonomous driving features in its forthcoming electric vehicles (EVs), CNBC reported.

This collaboration was announced on Tuesday. BMW aims to enhance the technology in its vehicles with a specific focus on Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), in order to compete with other industry leaders like Tesla Inc. (NASDAQ:TSLA).

The ADAS, a software system offering drivers assistance with tasks such as lane changing or parking, will be featured in BMW’s Neue Klasse range of electric cars set to launch in 2025. The technology behind these systems relies heavily on data processing and artificial intelligence processes.

Amazon Web Services (AWS) will play a crucial role in this development. BMW plans to store and process large volumes of data on Amazon’s cloud servers. This collaborative approach will allow BMW to update software quickly and train new AI models for more complex autonomous driving functions.

Additionally, BMW has also confirmed that it will use Qualcomm’s (NASDAQ:QCOM) Snapdragon Ride platform, a specialized set of chips, to power its ADAS from 2025.
