You Can Now Upload A PDF Document On ChatGPT And Start Asking Questions

Sam Altman-led OpenAI has launched new beta features for ChatGPT Plus subscribers, allowing them to upload documents and engage in text-based interactions along with multimodal support

What Happened: During the weekend, ChatGPT Plus subscribers started reporting on social media platforms like X (formerly Twitter) and Threads that GPT-4 has been updated, and it now allows users to do two much-anticipated things: Upload many types of documents and Use tools without switching.

Simply put, ChatGPT can now directly chat about PDFs and other document types, including data files, open a web browser, run Python code, and use DALL-E 3 to make images based on your prompt without picking a mode.

At the time of writing, Benzinga couldn’t test the multimodal feature, as ChatGPT was still required to change the modes manually, but we tried the Advanced Data Analysis.

The feature worked for small PDF sizes quickly, but for large PDFs, say a 14-volume book like the “The Wheel of Time” series, it took more than one attempt to extract information.

To use this feature, users need to upload a document. After that, ChatGPT will take some time to analyze it before it becomes ready to work with. You can then direct questions request data summaries, and character sketches.

It is worth noting that on social media, users have posted screenshots on Threads, demonstrating how they uploaded images and used ChatGPT combined with DALL-E 3 to create imaginative visual content.

Why It’s Important: This development effectively bridges the gap between ChatGPT Plus and the more comprehensive features offered by the ChatGPT Enterprise plan.

Now, with the ability to work with documents and engage in multimodal interactions, ChatGPT Plus has become a more versatile tool for a wide range of users.

However, some people are concerned that the introduction of the PDF chat feature by OpenAI could negatively impact many startups offering services or products related to document processing.
