House GOP Puts Marjorie Taylor Greene's Resolution To Impeach Alejandro Mayorkas On Hold

The House tabled a resolution to impeach Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, effectively stalling Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s (R-Ga.) attempt to remove Mayorkas from office over his handling of the U.S.-Mexico border situation.

The impeachment resolution was referred to the Homeland Security Committee, with eight Republicans joining Democrats to block it from reaching the floor for a vote. The final tally was 209-201, reported The Hill.

The eight Republicans who voted to table the resolution were Reps. Patrick Mchenry (R-N.C.), Tom McClintock (R-Calif.), John Duarte (R-Calif.), Virginia Foxx (R- N.C.), Darrell Issa (R- Calif.), Cliff Bentz (R-Ore.), Ken Buck (R-Colo.) and Mike Turner (R-Ohio).

Greene had earlier moved to force a vote on her resolution to impeach Mayorkas, accusing him of “willful admittance of border crossers” and violating the Secure Fence Act. Following the vote, Greene expressed outrage at the decision and warned of the anger of Republican voters.

Despite the setback, Greene indicated she may force another vote on her impeachment resolution. Her resolution, if successful, would have potentially undermined the ongoing process led by House Homeland Security Committee Chair Mark Green (R-Tenn.), who has accused Mayorkas of “dereliction of duty.”

The push to impeach Mayorkas has been a contentious issue within the House GOP conference, with some supporting the move and others advocating for regular order. The Homeland Security Committee released its interim report on the fourth phase of the investigation on Monday.
