The ongoing tension within the House Republicans escalated further on Tuesday when Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) took to social media to criticize her party colleague, Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.).

What Happened: Greene’s social media attack on Issa came after he questioned her “maturity and experience” over her intent to bring an impeachment vote against Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. Greene responded to Issa’s comments by posting a meme of former President Donald Trump with a derogatory caption, as reported by The Hill.

The meme said, ‘She said he’s a p****,’ according to the report, and was in response to another post from Greene’s House account on X, formerly Twitter.

Issa had defended his decision to oppose the impeachment measure on Mayorkas, which was eventually sent back to the committee. He was joined by seven other Republicans and Democrats in opposing the motion. Issa argued that privileged resolutions are usually brought by a majority or minority leader, not an individual member.

These recent events add to the increasing tension within the House Republicans, which has been escalating since the removal of then-Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) last month. The caucus faced difficulties in finding his replacement before electing Rep. Mike Johnson (R-La.).

Why It Matters: Greene’s recent confrontations with her GOP colleagues is not a new occurrence. She has previously sparked controversy with her contentious claims about the Democrats' actions during the Jan. 6 Capitol riots, as stated in her upcoming book, ‘MTG’. According to a Benzinga report from November, these claims have been strongly refuted as ‘patently false’ by her fellow representatives.

In an earlier incident in September, Greene had called for the secession of states from the union, a move that was met with harsh criticism from fellow lawmakers, as per another Benzinga article.
