UAW President Shawn Fain Worried About Biden's Re-Election Chances Against Trump: Report

The United Auto Workers (UAW) President Shawn Fain reportedly voiced his concerns about President Joe Biden‘s prospects in the upcoming November election against Donald Trump.

What Happened: Fain reportedly held a meeting with the UAW executive board to discuss the union’s potential strategies in light of his concerns, Reuters reported on Friday. The UAW, which endorsed Biden in January, is a critical ally of the President and is anticipated to play a crucial role in securing votes in key swing states, including Michigan, where the union is based.

Both Biden and Trump have been actively campaigning in Michigan, targeting employees of major U.S. automakers like Ford Motor, General Motors, and Stellantis.

Despite the UAW’s endorsement, Biden has been under increasing pressure to step down as the Democratic candidate following a shaky debate performance. Concerns about his mental fitness for office have been raised, leading to defections from Democratic lawmakers, donors, and other allies who fear a loss to Trump.

Why It Matters: The UAW’s endorsement of Biden in January was seen as a significant boost to his campaign. UAW President Shawn Fain praised Biden for his support during the union's recent strike against major automakers.

However, Trump criticized Fain for endorsing Biden, accusing him of not understanding the future of the automobile industry and aiding the transfer of the industry to China.

According to a recent Pew Research survey, a majority of Americans believe that both Biden and Trump should step aside. The incumbent Democratic President is struggling to quell concerns about his age, and his Republican opponent has been found guilty of 34 felony counts.
