Shares of Applied Materials, Inc. (NASDAQ: AMAT) were trading higher by more than 13 percent Friday morning following the company's better-than-expected second quarter results and a strong outlook for the third quarter.

1. Revenue in China reached an all-time high.

2. During the quarter, the company booked nearly $1 billion of NAND orders, also a record high.

3. Looking forward, the company believes it faces "greater opportunities" and a "stronger pipeline" of products than at any point in history.
