Tesla Recalls Nearly 78,000 Model 3, Model Y Vehicles In China
Elon Musk‘s EV company Tesla Inc. (NASDAQ:TSLA) is recalling 77,650 Model 3 and Y vehicles in China citing concerns about the tire pressure monitoring system.
What Happened: The recalled Model 3 and Y vehicles were manufactured between Sept. 28, 2021, and Nov. 22 at the company’s gigafactory in Shanghai. Tesla will fix the issue via an over-the-air software update, according to a recall notice published on China's State Administration for Market Regulation website on Tuesday.
The company is also recalling 63 imported Model S and X vehicles in China, citing concerns about potential damage to the driver’s front airbag fabric. The company said in the notice that it will replace the airbags in affected vehicles to resolve the issue.
Why It Matters: The recall in China follows the recall of 694,304 Cybertruck, Model 3, and Model Y vehicles in the U.S. earlier this month owing to similar concerns about the tire pressure monitoring system.
Most issues identified by Tesla in its vehicles are fixed via over-the-air updates, removing the need for vehicle owners to personally visit the service center for a fix. Tesla has issued only a few recalls this year in the U.S. or China where the fix needed a physical visit to the service center.
