Acer Announces Aspire S3 Ultrabook

Share:

Earlier today at the IFA conference in Berlin, Germany, Acer officially announced the Aspire S3, its first Ultrabook computer. For those of you who don't know, an Ultrabook is a computer that has a very slim profile and integrates close to top-of-the-line notebook parts.

The Aspire S3 uses Acer's Green Instant On technology, which allows the computer to resume in a fast 1.5 seconds and potentially have a battery that lasts 50 days. In addition, the notebook uses Acer's Instant Connect technology, allowing users to connect to the Internet in just 2.5 seconds.

The Aspire S3 measures in at 0.5 inches thin and weighs less than 3 pounds. The computer features a 13.3-inch ultra-thin HD LED display and a lightweight metal casing. Acer is also touting that the Aspire S3 has an "innovative airflow design":

The Aspire S3 features a vent-free bottom so the notebook rests comfortably on the user's lap. Warm components are smartly placed away from the palmrest and touchpad area, so users won't feel any heat discomfort. Further innovation is offered via a new airflow design that dissipates warm air from the rear of the notebook, preventing air from blowing towards the user's hands. Finally, the fan motor is optimized to enhance efficiency and lower power consumption to help increase system battery life.

Other specs for the Aspire S3 are below:

  • Second-generation Intel i3/i5/i7 processors
  • A choice of a 240 GB solid-state drive [SSD] or a 320/500 GB HDD with embedded SSD
  • HDMI output
  • Card reader
  • A 1.3-megapixel camera + microphone
  • Wi-Fi and Bluetooth support
The Acer Aspire S3 will be priced between $1,139.05 (€799) and $1,709.29 (€1199) and will begin to be sold in select markets this month. Acer continues by saying the computer will rollout to other markets in October and will become its "star product" during the fourth quarter.
