Some Tips For No More Lost Decades In Stocks
Aaron Task of Yahoo's Tech Ticker interviewed Vitaliy Katsenelson of Investment Management Associates, and Katsenelson believes stocks will go sideways for the next 10 years.
"To be honest, I have no idea what [the market] is going to do over the next three weeks. But I think over next 8 to 10 years it will be going sideways," he says.
Katsenelson gave tips on how to avoid this, by saying it's okay to sell stocks, you don't have to be married to them. He also said it's better to hold high quality companies than low quality. It's also okay to hold cash.
Katsenelson said look for companies that are trading with high margins of safety, or the difference between the intrinsic value of a stock and its market price.
He also praised dividends, as 90% of returns in sideways markets are dividends. He also said not to time the markets.
