Will The Bull Market Make It To 2017?

This bull market run officially turned seven years old today.

This 84-month run is the third-longest on record, with the average lasting slightly less than 59 months, according to S&P Dow Jones Indices. Reuters noted, "Though also above average, the gains are somewhat less impressive, with the S&P 500 stock index up 193 percent, fifth among 13 bull markets since the Great Depression. The average bull market climb is 167 percent."

CNBC's Michael Santoli said that from the unique perspective of inside a bull market (or any other trend), the comparisons to all of the stock-market advances since 1928 are incomplete, as the definitive characteristics are "only declared and dated in retrospect."

So, do you think the bull market run will continue? Based on a Benzinga poll, many people aren't.

Sixty percent said this run won't make it to 2017, while 19 percent think we have at least another year left.

The broad market has more than tripled investors' money from the March 2009 lows, returning a total return of 215 percent.

"To a large extent the past seven years lulled people into thinking that being in a bull market is a god-given right," ProShares chief executive Michael Sapir told TIME. "Bear markets and corrections are still a fact of life."
