Auto Engineer Salaries: How Ford's UAW Deal Stacks Up Against GM, Tesla

Wondering about how much engineers at the top auto manufacturers make a year? The United Auto Workers Union (UAW) and Ford Motor Co (NYSE: F) agreed to a tentative deal to end the union’s strike. The deal includes a 25% wage increase across the board for employees and other benefits.

Here’s How The Salaries Break Down:

Ford: The average engineer salary for Ford is around $113,000 a year, according to Glassdoor.com. With the 25% pay increase, this means that engineers will be making around $140,000 a year at Ford following the implementation of the new contract.

GM: Engineers at General Motors Co (NYSE: GM) make slightly more than Ford engineers, according to Glassdoor. The average engineer at GM is bringing in $117,000 a year, a few thousand dollars more than those working at Ford.

Unlike Ford, General Motors and the UAW have not agreed to a tentative deal, although Ford’s agreement should move negotiations in the right direction. Once GM does come to terms with the union, it’s likely that their engineers will still be making slightly more than Ford’s.

Tesla: Engineers working for Tesla Inc (NASDAQ: TSLA) make more than the other major U.S. auto manufacturers. According to Glassdoor.com, the average Tesla engineer brings in more than $130,000 a year, despite the company not having a union.
