The Dow zipped more than 170 points higher on Friday morning amid renewed optimism that euro zone officials may be edging closer to an agreement to tackle the currency bloc's debt crisis before it escalates further.

As of 10:00 a.m. ET, the Dow Jones Industrial Average jumped 172 points, or 1.5%, to 11,715, the S&P 500 climbed 17.8 points, or 1.5%, to 1,233 and the Nasdaq Composite gained 35.4 points, or 1.4%, to 2,634.
