Amazon Unveils 'Fire Phone' At Seattle Conference

Amazon.com (NASDAQ: AMZN) unveiled its new smart phone as expected at a conference in Seattle Wednesday afternoon hosted by Chief Executive Jeff Bezos.

Called the Fire Phone, the product may help Amazon sell consumers its digital content that includes music, movies and games while competing with Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL), Google (NASDAQ: GOOGL) and Samsung (OTC: SSNLF)

AT&T (NYSE: ATT) will be the exclusive carrier for the new phone, according to The Wall Street Journal.

The device features a 4.7-inch screen, 2GB RAM, a quad-core 2.2GHz processor and a 13 megapixel rear-facing camera with an f/2.0 lens.

It also has an image recognition system called Firefly that can consumers help buy items from the Amazon store. Other features include an audio recognition system that can relate to movies and television show details.

In mid-afternoon trading, Amazon shares were up 2.15 percent to $332.62.
