General Motors Company Reports Sales Rose 19% in September

General Motors Company (NYSE: GM) reported on Wednesday that delivered 223,437 vehicles in the United States, a rise of 19.4 percent from a year ago, exceeding analyst expectations of 18 percent growth.

Retail deliveries rose 17 percent while fleet deliveries rose 30 percent, including the 11th consecutive monthly rise in commercial sales.

“GM saw strength almost across the board in September, and outpaced the industry with the newest trucks and SUVs at exactly the right time,” said Kurt McNeil, U.S. vice president of sales operations in a press release. “We will have improved availability of heavy-duty pickups and large SUVs in the months ahead, and the Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon are arriving in showrooms as we speak. This sets us up to finish the year on a very strong note.”

Average transaction prices rose $1,200 per unit compared with August, and were up $2,500 per unit from a year ago to $34,600, the highest in company history.

Deliveries of Buick vehicles rose 11.8 percent from a year ago to 17,466 units. The LaCrosse was the only model that saw deliveries decline during the month, as deliveries fell 8.2 percent to 3,626 units.

Deliveries of Cadillac vehicles were flat year over year at 13,829 units. Deliveries of Escalade and Escalade ESV surged 136.6 percent and 93.7 percent from a year ago, respectively. However, sales of ATS, CTS, SRX and XTS vehicles declined 18.3 percent, 5.3 percent, 15.2 percent and 22.8 percent, respectively.

Deliveries of Chevrolet vehicles rose 20.4 percent from a year ago to 153,873 units. Sales of Silverado-C/K Pickup rose 54.4 percent from a year ago to 50,176 units and were the highest-selling vehicle under the General Motors umbrella. The second-highest-selling vehicle, the Chevrolet Cruze saw its sales rise 44.7 percent from a year ago to 18,415 units. Sales of the Corvette sports car saw the highest growth rate as sales surged 196.9 percent to 2,467 units from a year ago.

Deliveries of GMC's trucks were particularly strong and rose 27.7 percent from a year ago to 38,269 units. Every model within GMC's offerings saw a rise in deliveries from a year ago, with sales of Yukon vehicles rising 93.5 percent from a year ago to 3,226 units.
