DigiTimes Says Global Semiconductor Sales Fell 3.2% In February
DigiTimes reported on Wednesday that global semiconductor sales fell "slightly" in February by 3.2 percent.
DigiTimes, citing a report by the Semiconductor Industry Association, stated worldwide sales of semiconductor equipment totaled $26 billion in February, 2016. The sales figure represents a 3.2 percent month-over-month decline and a 6.2 percent decrease from February 2015's total sales of $27.7 billion.
"Global semiconductor sales slipped somewhat in February, due to normal seasonal trends, demand softening, and unfavorable macroeconomic conditions," said John Neuffer, president and CEO of SIA. "Most regional markets have struggled to overcome these headwinds, and sales have dipped across the majority of semiconductor product categories."
DigiTimes added that semiconductor sales in China fell 4.6 percent sequentially in February but actually rose 3.5 percent on year.
By region, sales in Europe fell 0.9 percent sequentially, Japan sales fell 0.8 percent, Asia Pacific/All Other fell 0.7 percent and the Americas experienced the worst declines at 7.0 percent sequentially and 19.3 percent year-over-year.
Finally, DigiTimes pointed out sales also fell across most major semiconductor product categories, with the exception of microprocessors as sales rose 3.4 percent year-over-year.
