Apple Sorcery Saves The Day — Magician Finds Bag Stranded On Airport Tarmac Thanks To AirTag

Apple Inc.’s (NASDAQ:AAPL) AirTag has often helped people find their lost items. This time, a well-known corporate magician found his missing bag with the help of this tiny yet powerful device. 

What Happened: Danny Orleans, a renowned corporate magician, experienced a harrowing situation when his checked bag disappeared after landing at Newark Airport. Orleans was en route to perform at a trade show in New York the next day and urgently needed the bag, which contained around $1,500 worth of essential sound equipment, reported Business Insider. 

After disembarking from the United Airlines flight, Orleans headed to the United Lounge for a free lunch before proceeding to the baggage claim area. To his dismay, everyone on his flight was still waiting for their luggage to appear.

Fortunately, Orleans had a secret weapon — an Apple AirTag securely tucked inside his missing bag. By checking the AirTag app on his phone, he discovered his bag was still on the airport’s runway, not yet inside the terminal. 

The bag remained stationary for nearly half an hour, then suddenly moved to another location on the tarmac.

When he reported the missing bag to a United representative, Orleans faced skepticism as the employee insisted that the bag was not even checked in at Newark. Undeterred, Orleans showed the employee the real-time location of his bag on the AirTag app, but the information was seemingly ignored.

Faced with the prospect of waiting days for the bag to be delivered, a move that wouldn’t suit his performance schedule, Orleans decided to take matters into his own hands. 

The AirTag app suggested the bag might be near gate 90, though his flight had arrived at gate 113. To verify this, the report noted that he had to re-enter the terminal, which prompted him to buy a fully refundable ticket to Boston merely for access. 

To his astonishment, there it was – his bag sitting stranded and seemingly ignored on the tarmac, even as airport staff walked past it nonchalantly.

Orleans sought assistance from a helpful United employee, who was amazed by the situation and promptly retrieved the bag.

Why It’s Important: Apple’s AirTag gained popularity following its 2021 release. It was designed to help people locate personal belongings but later came under scrutiny because it proved an easy tool for stalkers to track unsuspecting individuals unaware of the monitoring.
