Elon Musk's 'Weird' Cybertruck Design Prompted Tesla Engineers To Secretly Design Alternative Version: Biography Reveals

Details from an upcoming Elon Musk biography reveal that several Tesla Inc. (NASDAQ:TSLA) engineers were not fond of the Cybertruck design, Business Insider reported.

The account by biographer Walter Isaacson, who followed Musk for three years, states that many Tesla engineers “hated” the futuristic design of the Cybertruck.

Franz von Holzhausen, Tesla’s design chief, is quoted saying, “A majority of the people in this studio hated it. hey were like, ‘You can’t be serious.’ They didn’t want to have anything to do with it. It was just too weird.”

Some engineers even secretly designed an alternative version of the electric pickup, according to Isaacson. The fate of this alternative version remains unclear as Musk, von Holzhausen, and Tesla’s spokesperson did not comment on the matter.

Despite the internal resistance, Musk was reportedly “less patient” and dismissed concerns about the Cybertruck. He emphasized a drivable version of the vehicle for a Tesla event in November rather than adjusting the design.

Musk first unveiled the concept for the electric pickup truck about four years ago. Despite facing a series of delays, Musk has assured that the Cybertruck deliveries will start within the year.

The final version of the Cybertruck, with its unconventional design, continues to be a topic of debate among those who have pre-ordered the vehicle.
