Apple Set to Scrap Old Suppliers?
Apple's strategy in the patent wars could include a supplier change.
That's according to an afternoon update from Global Equities Research. Earlier today, the research firm released a report regarding the sales of Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) computers, particularly those associated with the company's back-to-school sale. Now Global Equities is responding to a few questions it received following the report's release.
Q) “Will there be other bidders for Motorola Mobility (NYSE: MMI)?”
A) “No.”
Q) “What will Apple's defense be against various patents?”
A) “Next Patent Wars will be fought in these 3 areas - NFC, Mobile Payments, 4G and Multi-gestures - Apple will very likely change their suppliers, based on how strong their Technology IP is...and their suppliers will defend AAPL. Apple themselves will probably go around suing companies on the Software and Industrial design....We are working on Patent analysis - but it may take another 2 - 3 weeks to complete, as Jason and Rajiv are working on Data Center market Tracker.”
Q) “We disagree - Apple Back-to School sales are strong.”
A) “Our research does not indicate that. [Apple] is not immune to a struggling consumer. However, if AAPL does alter its Back-to-School strategy….Back-to-School sales may not be that bad.”
