Anadarko Announces Another Ghana Find

Anadarko Petroleum (NYSE: APC), the second-largest U.S. independent oil and natural gas producer, said its the Ntomme-2A appraisal well off the coast of Ghana found evidence of oil, adding to the company's string of successes in Africa.

Texas-based Anadarko has an 18% interest in the Deepwater Tano Block as does Kosmos Energy (NYSE: KOS). Tullow Oil of the U.K. owns an almost 50% interest and other partners include Ghana National Petroleum and Sabre Oil and Gas.

"The Ntomme-2A well is located approximately 2.8 miles south of the Tweneboa-3 sidetrack, in approximately 5,675 feet (1,730 meters) of water. The well was drilled to a depth of approximately 12,810 feet (3,905 meters). Once operations are complete, the partnership plans to install gauges in the Tweneboa-3 sidetrack prior to a planned drillstem test at Ntomme-2A," Anadarko said in a statement.

In addition to Ghana, Anadarko has operations in the African nations of Algeria, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Liberia, Mozambique and Sierra Leone.

Anadarko and its partners first found oil at Ghana's Jubilee field in December 2010. Jubilee is believed to hold over 1 billion barrels of recoverable reserves.
