Content Is Key At WebMediaBrands
This week, Benzinga published its interview with Alan Meckler, the CEO of WebMediaBrands Inc. (NASDAQ: WEBM), an Internet media company that provides content, education and online job board services to media and business professionals.
Meckler, who has been in media publishing for roughly 40 years, said that he has done everything from book and journal publishing to trade shows. “Now primarily at WebMediaBrands, we have a site called mediabistro.com, which I believe covers the media industry more comprehensively than any website or group of blogs,” he said. “We also do trade shows. We have the largest online job board for the media industry.”
With regard to pioneering new sites and acquiring existing dot-coms, Meckler said that WebMediaBrands is primarily interested in growing its reach into the coverage of media. More specifically, they've been looking at social media. “We've made some acquisitions there,” Meckler told Benzinga. “Our main goal is to invest heavily in content and to get a loyal readership and then our goal is to sell services to that readership.”
